Linkages
and collaboration
NARO
has at its disposal expertise and facilities which offer
great potentials for the Organization to contribute to
the development of agriculture and agricultural research
on a national as well as on a regional scale. Cooperation
with users and other involved parties reinforces the coherence
between the goals of research and the expectations and
requirements of interested parties.
Clients
and Beneficiaries
NARO's
users and cooperative partners encompass agriculture as
a whole, including the advisory/extension service, the
food industry, the agro-industry, organisations and trades,
other research and educational institutions, Ministries
and Government agencies and society as a whole.
Great
emphasis is placed on strengthening and intensifying cooperation
through increased contact, creating innovations and supporting
the development of new products, quick dissemination of
research results and commercialising findings.
The
Board composition has continued to have representation
from agricultural and natural resources stakeholder institutions.
Their involvement enables them to directly influence the
research policy and direction of NARO management. Programme
planning ensures direct participation of the stakeholders
and clients in the formulation of research programmes
to ensure relevance and responsiveness.
NARO
scientists actively participate in extension activities
of the central government ministries, the local governments,
non-governmental and community based organisations through
joint planning, training and provision of technologies.
Outreach and Partnership activities, coordinated by Deputy
Director General - Outreach at the secretariat, hinge
on:
training
of extension workers and subject matter specialists;
technology
development and transfer; and,
outreach
activities like identification of production constraints,
seed loan schemes, distribution of planting materials,
on-farm demonstrations and farmer field days.
External
Collaborators
Linkages
have been maintained with the International Agricultural
Research Centres and Networks which provide important

with several regional commodity research networks and
other NARS components in Uganda and other countries.
