CROP RESEARCH
Adaptive Research and Dissemination of Crop Technologies in the MWZ of Uganda.
Overall Objective
Adapt and disseminate appropriate technologies that increase agricultural productivity in the MWZ through:
- Evaluating the performance of proven and promising research technologies
- Increase awareness through demonstration of recommended crop technologies
- Multiplication and dissemination of available and appropriate research technologies
|
On-station /On-farm Outputs/achievements for FY2010/2011
- Adaptive trials for major crops (beans, sweet potato, maize, millet, cassava and hybrid matooke) were evaluated major for yield, pests and disease resistance

Major Challenges
•Erratic weather conditions (poor rainfall distribution)
• Theft of trials
• Irregular flow of funds
• Lack of basic research support infrastructure such as an oven and laboratory
•Late delivery of planting material due to delayed funds
• Farmers commitment to manage trials still remain a challenge
• Farmers ability to record and keep data
• How to interest and involve other partners in the district to support these Farmer Research groups
On Farm Planned Activities for FY 2011/12
•Strengthen linkages with partners (i.e NAADS,NGOs) in the zone through joint planning and evaluation sessions
• Establish at least 9 adaptive trials in Buliisa and Kamwenge in collaborations with other partners.
• Participatory Monitoring and evaluation of adaptive trials
• Strengthen the operations of farmer Research groups through trainings and exposure tours and visits
• Establish at least one community demonstration on any selected commodity
