Mbarara ZARDI Status

  1. ZARDI rehabilitated and operational.

  2. Zonal farming systems surveyed and documented.

  3. Farmers' innovations and indegenous technologies in disease and pest control on crops and livestock identified and documented.

  4. On-station demonstrations, trials and multiplication of improved seed, planting and stocking materials including cattle, goats, pigs, banana, coffee, annual crops, fruits, pastures, legumes, hay, and silage.

  5. On-farm Farmer Participatory Research (FRR) established with farmers as follows: 28 in former Mbarara district;18 in Rakai and 36 in Sembabule comprising improved crops and livestock.Over 3000 households in Ibanda district have transformed from Subsistance farming to commercial.

  6. Partnership established with NARO institutes; Local government,NAADS; NGOs,CBOs, Farmer groups and contacts; MUK and International development partners (EU,World Bank).

  7. District priorities have been determined, and overall Zonal priorities jointly set, for the National Agricultural Research System(NARS) new plan of action.
