JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Abi Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute is one of the Public Agricultural Research Institute established by the National Agricultural Research Act, 2005. The institute is mandated to conduct applied and adaptive agricultural research in the West Nile Agro ecological zone under the policy guidance of the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO).  The Director Abi ZARDI invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions of at Abi in Arua.

A. Job Title:                            INTERNAL AUDITOR (1 Vacancy)

Job Ref:                        Abi 01/2010

Salary Grade:                         UR 5(i)

Duties:                                                                  

  1. Examine records of various departments and projects to ensure proper recording of financial transactions.
  2. Monitor purchase of equipment and materials to ensure that all transactions conform to approved procurement procedures
  3. Monitor recruitment and selection of staff to ensure that all appointments conform to approved human resources policies and procedures.
  4. Analyze deficiencies in management controls, duplication of effort, extravagance, fraud or irregularities against approved management policies.
  5. Assessing risks and advising on risk management.
  6. Conducting special audits to discover fraudulent methods and techniques and to develop controls for fraud prevention.
  7. Preparing reports and findings to the Chairman Management Committee, Director and Head of Internal Audit.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants should posses a good degree in commerce, Business administration with a bias to Accountancy or Finance. Candidates should have at least three (3) years working experience in Auditing in a reputable organization.

B. Job Title:                            Human Resource and Administration Officer (1 Vacancy)

Job Ref:                        Abi 02/2010

Salary Grade:                        UR 5(i)

Duties:                                     

  1. Participating in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic human resource management plans and budget
  2. Coordinating the recruitment and selection process and preparing submission for staff appointments
  3. Monitoring the performance evaluation of staff undergoing probation in order to determine their confirmation in employment
  4. Developing, coordinating and implementing effective strategies for improving workplace relations in order to gain employee commitment and improved morale
  5. Overseeing the implementation of an effective human resource management information system for monitoring, tracking and evaluating employees activities
  6. Assessing training needs of administrative support staff as well as developing and implementing on the job-training programs
  7. Oversee all the administrative aspects of the institute for smooth running of the institute

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences with a bias in sociology, anthropology or Business Administration.
  • Three (3) years relevant experience in human resource management gained from a large Organization.

                             

C. Job Title:                                 Procurement Assistant (1 Vacancy)

Job Ref:                        Abi 03/2010

Salary Grade:                         UR 6

Duties:                        

  1. Liaising with all users to obtain and consolidate their procurement needs
  2. Prepare Solicitation documents for supplies, works and services
  3. Obtain quotations for procurements within the stipulated thresholds
  4. To participate in bid evaluations and recommendations for award of contracts
  5. Prepare draft contracts, Local Purchase Orders and other documents for signature/clearance by the Director
  6. Follow up and monitoring of orders/contracts for supplies, works and services and to ensure quality, timely delivery
  7. Initiate requests for payments to service providers
  8. Prepare monthly and quarterly procurement reports for submission to the Head Procurement and Disposal Unit
  9. Keep an update of Procurement files/ register

Minimum Qualifications

A diploma in Public Procurement, or Purchasing and Supplies Management, from a recognized institution with hands on experience of three years in a Public Entity. Proficiency in computer packages such as Word and Excel. Training in Public Procurement will be an added advantage.                       


Note: Applicants should not be above 45 years for all the positions.

Employment Terms for all posts:

Successful candidates will be employed on four years’ contract renewable on satisfactory performance.
